The power in passwords

Summer solstice and the longest days of the year. ♥ Wherever you are, I hope the sun is shining for you.

“And so with the sunshine and the great bursts of leaves growing on the trees, just as things grow in fast movies, I had that familiar conviction that life was beginning over again with the summer.”  ~ F. Scott Fitzgerald

I’ll admit right from the top that I am borrowing this idea. Somewhere along the way in the past week or two, I heard someone mention this idea, probably on a podcast. I put it into action and I will say this – it’s effective. It’s a real spirit booster.

I’m already very intentional when it comes time to choose or update a password. I never do a sequential thing or use a pet’s name. I have always gravitated towards something meaningful in my life at the time – a vacation I was looking forward to or a particular goal I’d been working towards. It feels enjoyable to craft a meaningful password, but I’d often put a lot of thought into it initially and kind of just forget about it. If you believe in law of attraction, you know what I’m talking about. If you don’t, well, the law of attraction is the idea that we manifest the things we put out there. Put differently, the things that we focus on in our lives are the things we bring into our lives. This can be good when our outlook is positive and looking forward, but it can drag us down when we’re feeling pessimistic or defeated.

Think about this: every time you type in a password, you say that word or combination of characters to yourself. Sure, maybe you don’t say it out loud, but you think it and there may be no words we think more frequently and repetitively than our passwords. So imagine picking one that would inspire you every time you thought of it, something that would give you pause to consider something close to your heart, a way for you to harness all of those good vibes into optimizing your life. What a great dose of regular positivity that could be!

Maybe you pick a word that sets an intention for your day (grateful, happy, positive, strong) or that makes you smile (your next vacation destination, a goal on your horizon, something you’re looking forward to.) It is one tiny, effortless way to bring a little ray of sunshine into your day.

I’m not the only one who is thinking about this. In fact, here’s a guy who used this process to heal some deep wounds. If you’re having trouble coming up with your own, Mantra Password Generator will come up with one for you.
